Trauma-Informed Yoga Training

At Rooted Heart Yoga, trauma-informed means we recognize that life experiences are held in the body—not just the mind.

This training is not about treating trauma. It is about learning how to teach yoga in a way that supports safety, choice, and nervous system regulation.

We focus on creating spaces where students can stay connected to their own experience, without pressure, overwhelm, or expectation.

Why it matters

Many students come to yoga carrying stress, anxiety, grief, burnout, or past experiences that can show up in the body in unexpected ways.

As teachers, we learn how to support students by:

  • Offering choice instead of correction

  • Using invitational, empowering language

  • Supporting regulation instead of intensity

  • Avoiding overwhelm in breathwork and cueing

  • Creating a steady, grounded class environment

What you’ll learn

In this training, you will learn how to:

  • Understand the nervous system in a practical, accessible way

  • Recognize signs of activation or shutdown

  • Teach with language that supports safety and choice

  • Offer accessible variations in every posture

  • Sequence classes that support grounding and regulation

  • Use breathwork in a supportive, non-overwhelming way

  • Hold space without needing to fix or process what arises

Our approach

We keep trauma-informed teaching:

  • Practical and easy to apply in real classes

  • Grounded in embodiment, not theory alone

  • Choice-based and non-coercive

  • Supportive without being heavy or clinical

What this is not

This training is not therapy.
We do not process personal trauma in group settings.
We do not force emotional release or catharsis.
We do not assume one experience applies to every body.

The intention

To support yoga teachers in holding space that feels steady, clear, and human.

So students can experience:
“I have choice here. I can stay connected to myself here. I am safe to simply be.”
